Pleasurable Distractions

Recently while at church I heard a word combination I had not heard before - Pleasurable Distraction.  While I have heard both words used in different combinations, I had not heard this one and I thought it was very descriptive.

As I continued to ponder this word combination, so many things came to mind. For example, how often we allow our goals and dreams to be sidelined by, you guessed it, pleasurable distractions.  How so you ask, how many times (or for how long) have you procrastinated doing the things that will bring your goal closer for the sake of, being tired, a TV program, hanging out with friends, browsing pictures and gossip stories on social sites, being caught up in addictions, etc..

I imagine, it would not be hard to find examples of where we allowed some pleasurable distractions to get in the way of our dreams/goals. A good example is this story I ran across of a woman who was scammed out of $500,000 (yes that number is correct) on a Christian dating site - read it here for yourself.

To many this sounds flat out CRAZY! To this woman, a need was being met or I would say, she was pleasurably distracted.  Either way the outcome of this distraction was costly like soo many others that we allow into our lives.

How do you stay focused and not allow pleasurable distractions to well, distract you?

Blessings,

Philippians 3:12-14 12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
